The Americans have landed!

Not long now until the main Footstep 11 conference programme kicks off. Yesterday, those youth who had already arrived spent the day with their respective host families. Morgan Phillips (the Footstep 11 Workshop co-ordinator) and his girlfriend Emma McQuillan arrived on campus, after spending 9 days on the north-east coast of Jamaica.
In the early afternoon, Desmond Campbell (the Jamaican Conference Co-ordinator) drove into Montego Bay to pick up some US arrivals (Jeff Murphy and Ian Goering from Cheltenham Township) and Koome Kirimi (a Kenyan youth living in Minnesota).
Meanwhile, Ania and Glenn Standish remained back on campus helping to put the finishing touches to the conference preparations. Glenn also spent much of the day tracking the arrival (or rather departure) of Kenyan facilitator Edwin Ochieng. Edwin's Air Jamaica plane was due to take off yesterday from Heathrow at 15.15 but was delayed a whopping 24 hrs due to engine trouble. His plane has literally just taken off 20 mins ago so by rough calculation should be arriving into Montego Bay about 18.00.
The remainder of the conference participants will all be dropped off at the college at about 15.00 when there will be registration and a tour of the campus and town. In the evening, there will be The Getting To Know You event followed by a screening of Al Gore's climate crisis documentary "An Inconvenient Truth".
