Day Four by Anna Moss (Gloucestershire, UK)

Another sunny day in Jamaica! Today's workshop theme was consumerism. Morgan took us through some of the psychology behind it, including Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. In the UK and many other countries, our material wealth has surpassed our physiological needs, and now we're sold stuff on the basis that the more you have, the happier you are. It was really interesting discussing this with all the participants, as although we all come from different countries and cultures, the basic material culture is common to all of us.

The afternoon was a lot of fun - we all did role plays under the title 'I have a dream - not I have a nightmare'. There are some really talented actors among us! It was a fun way to think about serious issues, and everyone had a good time.

Now it's early evening and I'm sitting here writing this on the beach in Ocho Rios. It's beautiful here and everyone is so friendly. Everyone has made us feel so welcome and I know that lasting friendships will be made here. We'll keep in touch long after Footstep 11 has ended, and I know that I'll always remember this trip.

PS. Some guy just saw me writing this, and came to ask me what I was doing. When I told him he asked me to write him in this blog - so there you go! If he ever reads this, he'll know who he is! :-)
