Day Five: Field Study Trip by Hanna Wisniewska (Torun, Poland) and Koome Kirimi (Isiolo Town, Kenya)

Jamaican crocodiles:
We woke up bright and early on day 5 of Footstep 11 and headed for Bob Marley Mausoluem at Nine Miles, Saint Ann. The winding roads not withstanding we made it to the top of Mt. Zion where we got a tour of Bob Marley's birthplace. Fuzzy our tour guide was extremely hillarious. We got to touch Bob's tomb and observed half a minute silence.
We then went on to visit the Black River to watch crocodiles and their habitat. We took a boat ride in a medium-sized engine boat. We got to see approximately 8 crocodiles and some participants were even able to pet the crocodiles because Jamaican crocodiles are not dangerous if treated with caution.
Our day's events took us to Lovers' Leap where were able to capture a magnificent view of The Caribbean Sea. Lovers' Leap was named after a slave couple that jumped to their death from a cliff. On our way back, one of the buses had a tyre burst and we had to stop for the tyre to be replaced. The entire day went very well!
PS. It was very interesting and amazing to learn how the Black River got its name (from the peat at the bottom).

This was a good trip-pity I missed all the photos! Also a shame the bus journey home took so long, although It's not our fault one of the buses burst a tire!

The Global Footsteps conference has been great until so far! I could not have imagined that I would have really enjoyed the conference that much. Thanks to the organizers, the program is perfectly prepared, while getting to know each other and Jamaica, we have also covered many issues from consumerism to human impacts on environment. The interactive methods used in training made us learn, discuss and exchange ideas efficiently. Lastly, I have never been very close with the locals in the countries I have visited before. Now, I have a huge amount of friends from very different backgrounds, from shepherds, to shopkeepers. I am very enthusiastic about turning back and share my expereince for future events!

Can you imagine an island, not quite round, but green and hilly with the narrow roads zigzagging through the hills covered with different plants and trees...this is there we are for this week... in Jamaica!
Yesterday it was an exsiting day, when we spent lots of time on the road discovering its wonderful sites!

the day was amazing! exciting! informative and most entertaining. Fuzzi the tour guide @ mt Zion was the main entertainer for the day. Also the tour guide at Black River was very informative. Can you imagine the different species birds , mangroves and reeds. we had some red stripe served on the boat ride in black river and the tour guide and crocodile dundee was able to pet some of the crocodiles. We fed them with some jerk chicken.
I Love it.
